Sleeping Facilities

A range of sleeping facilities will be provided, from heated cabins to large canvas tents. Sleeping facilities will also vary from cabins with bunk beds for 8-10 up to smaller rooms forsingle families.

Sleeping arrangements for brothers only, sisters only, and families will be provided. NOTE however that family cabins are LIMITED, and will be distributed

on a first come, first served basis.

All participants should bring their own sleeping bags, blankets (heavier winter blankets
and comforters for night are recommended to be safe, because late summer nights in the mountains can be cold) and pillows. There is minimal laundry facility onsite for emergency use only. So please bring multiple clothes in the event some get dirty.

All participants will be assigned their sleeping quarters prior to arrival and placement shall be strategically carried out to maximize positive interactions between the participants.
Attempts will be made to ensure that there will be adult supervisors to ensure that rules are complied with during our stay.

Family cabins available, but limited, on a first come, first serve basis. Please register early to ensure a spot.

Clean and relatively modern bathroom and shower facilities on the site for both men and women.

Dining Facilities

The dining facility is large and clean
with space for over 200.  We plan to serve HEALTHY and delicious food daily which will appease everyone. We will serve juices, tea and coffee. Candy, sodas and other snacks shall be available for sale.

The requirements for participation are as follows

All participants are expected to observe fundamental Islamic laws, which includes but is not limited to, good moral standards, maintaining modest dress, keeping aloof from backbiting and gossiping, presenting oneself with respect and dignity, maintaining decency with appropriate clothing and more. Brothers and sisters must show respect for each other. Serious misconduct may lead to expulsion from the camp if deemed necessary by POL administrators or Camp Kanawana administration.  Consider yourself warned.

Parents are expected to supervise their young children or have them placed in day care or other arranged supervision at all times and will be held responsible for any damages or other negative consequences resulting from a failure to properly do so.

In the interests of the comfort of all camp participants, a strict lights out policy will be enforced in cabins after 11 AM, and young children will not be permitted to wander unsupervised after dark.  Circulation of automobiles on the camp grounds will also not be permitted in general, and particularly after dark.  Those awake after lights out will be required to remain in certain designated areas, and will not be permitted to wander around the grounds unnecessarily.

Attendees are required to attend any mandatory assemblies and information sessions, and will be held responsible for all information shared in such sessions.

Bus transportation to the camp shall be provided on a first come first serve basis, so please let us know as soon as possible if you require a ride.

Items to Bring

  • FLASHLIGHTS for each person in your family. The camp is not as well lit as last year's, so flashlights are ESSENTIAL for getting around safely at night.

  • Swimsuit

  • Running Shoes

  • Jogging pants or sweat pants  You are strongly recommended to bring pants other than pants for watercraft (canoes, kayaks).

  • Towels

  • Extra clothes

  • Sweaters / Light Jacket / Coat (Even in summer, it can be quite cool in the mountains after dark. Without a sweater or coat you are likely to be uncomfortable at night)

  • Insect repellant, Sun Screen

  • A hat

  • Kleenex

  • Sanitary Napkins (if applicable)

  • Sleeping bag, pillows, blankets (including heavy blankets just in case it's cold)

  • Quran, Prayer Mat, Turbah, Book of Du'as

  • Camera to record the memories (though disposable would be recommended)
  • Any medications such as (Tylenol, Advil, puffers, etc)

  • Medicare card (for emergencies)

  • Calling card or long distance card to call back to Montreal (be advised that the area of the camp is outside the set dial-in zones for most of the long distance cards available in Montreal.  For such cards then, it is necessary to dial in to the card's 1-800 number, thereby incurring extra charges.  As a result, such cards will be depleted faster than usual.)
  • Some cash for canteen or other items as desired (snacks and POL clothing will be sold)

 Items to Avoid

  • Haram food

  • Magazines

  • Music

  • Fireworks (these present a risk of fire and personal injury and will NOT be tolerated)

  • Barbeques - These are a risk of fire, and, besides this, satisfying meals will be provided as part of the basic camp fees.  If campfires are held (currently there is a fire ban in effect in the area of the camp, check the website for updates about this) it should be possible to roast hotdogs, marshmallows, etc, and as well, it is anticipated that one of the meals will be "barbeque style" food.  So please leave the grill at home.
