Carnival **Call for Submissions** The Path of Light is in the process of expanding and improving the website, and as part of this process, is actively seeking submissions of articles, essays, opinion pieces addressed to any age level to build and expand the online library of articles. Articles should be clearly written, with clean grammar and spelling, in English or French, and should be written with an audience of Muslim converts, Muslim youth, or non-Muslims in mind. (French content, particularly good intro-level content about Islam is especially sought) Note: Although we welcome all submissions, submissions are subject to editorial review, and so we cannot guarantee that all submissions will appear on the site. Please include your name and your organization, if applicable, so that you can be properly credited (unless you wish not to be) for your work. email submissions to cyril_anderson@hotmail.com

2008 Path of Light Family Camp (3rd Annual) Time: Thursday, August 21st to Sunday, August 24th, 2008 Location: Camp Kanawana, Quebec. About one hour north of Montreal YMCA Kanawana Google Maps Link: Brief Description: Activities will include canoeing, swimming, arts and crafts, sports, campfires, discussions and educational programs, games, interpretive nature programs, and other activities. Cost: Adults (18 and over): $140 Youth (6-17): $110 Children (3-5): $20 Infants (2 and under): no charge Daily and nightly rates available as well. Time: June 14-15, 2008 Location: Concordia University, Montreal Brief Overview: In this seminar, we will examine a number of important issues related to strengthening the family as seen in the light of Islamic thought and heritage, as taught by the household of the Prophet (saws). This seminar is to be directed to older youth, those getting ready to be married, newly married couples, expecting couples, and parents both new and old. Topics will touch on such areas as the family unit as a foundation of the Islamic society, issues related to pregnancy and childbirth, issues related to infancy and early childhood, issues related to older youth, family relations, communication, and conflict resolution, sibling rivalry ad other issues related to having more than one child, schooling, education, and moral development of children, and challenges related to raising children in contemporary Canadian society. Active Muslim Groups Iftar: "A time to connect" Hosted By: Path of Light, SAMA Concordia, AJLM, MYM, Shiane Haidery Youth, Act Islam, The Truth editors, Imam Reda Institute Time: Friday, September 28th, 2007, 6:30-10:00 PM. Location: Centre Communautaire Musulmane de Montreal, 3300 Cremazie Est. Near corner of St. Michel and Cremazie. 5 minutes walk from St. Michel metro and near the St. Michel exit of the #40 autoroute. Overview: In the spirit of the Blessed month of Ramadan and in the spirit of unity within the community, the host organizations would like to invite the Shia youth of Montreal to attend an iftar and evening program. The purpose of this iftar is for Shia youth groups from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds to work together to gather in community youth from these different backgrounds to make closer contacts between one another and to help forge closer ties of brotherhood across cultural and nationalistic boundaries. We welcome all the community youth to join in and support this activity.
Cost: Free, but donations are welcome to help cover the costs of the event and to support more activities like this in the future. 2007 Path of Light Family Camp (2nd Annual)

Time: Saturday, May 5th and Sunday, May 6th, 2007, Montreal, Quebec. Location: Concordia University, Hall Building, 1455 de Maisonneuve O., Room H-635. Web registration coming soon. The Islamic institution of marriage is one that lies at the heart of our religion. Indeed, a famous tradition narrated from the Prophet (saws) in all schools of thought in Islam states that he who is married has secured half his deen (religion/way of life) Marriage is a crucial anchor in the life of the individual and in the structure of the community, and is such is recognized by the thinkers of all religions and of all cultures as a key pillar of society, providing at its best a stable, nurturing environment for the next generation and as a source of companionship and mutual support for the spouses involved. The goal of this seminar is to examine a number of issues of importance for those who are looking into getting married, preparing to get married, or newly married in the light of this heritage. focus of this conference is to deal with topics that directly effect
reverts, the event is open to everyone!! The
conference will provide participants the opportunity to socialize, network
and share experiences relating to the challenges and opportunities faced
by Muslims in North American society. The attendees of the three day
conference to be held April 13th - 15th will have the occasion to select
from a variety of workshops and listen to lectures, which cater to
inquiring minds and the seasoned Muslim. We are confident that our
