| My name is Thamina, I'm from Canada. At first I really started creating art because of the incentive from a school course I was in. But then once I really started learning about different art forms and mediums, I decided I would make things that were important to me. I wanted to create something that truly stood for something greater than mere individual thoughts or emotions. Islam provided that deeper meaning. I wanted to reproduce (as much as it was humanly possible) the strong feelings I felt toward my religion and its greatness through visual art. Studying a lot about Islamic art and all the various means to project the spirit of Islam through artwork, I started thinking about my own style of work and how I would present it. In most of my Islamic art I use bold forms and colours to reflect the similar nature of Islam - it stands out, it cannot be ignored. I loved creating my own Islamic art and feeding off the inspiration that I received from viewing the Islamic art of others. It feels great to know that other people are drawing their creative energy from the same source. I really do believe in a Muslim surrounding one's self with beautiful and meaningful Islamic art; it serves as a constant visual comforter and reminder of who you are and what you are striving for - the
pleasure of Allah. |
